ILM Recognised

ILM Recognised is the validation of a leadership and management programme by ILM against a set of global quality standards, the ILM Recognised Quality Measures.

ILM Recognised confirms that a programme is fit for purpose and aligned to the ILM Footprint.

The ILM Footprint is the requirement used by ILM to determine whether the content of a programme is suitable for approval as ‘ILM Recognised’. It is one of the four ILM Recognised Quality Measures.

A programme aligns to the ILM Footprint if it meets all of the following requirements:

• The main intention of the programme is to develop or enhance skills and/or knowledge related to at least one of the four key components for professional development: leadership, management, coaching and mentoring or enterprise.
• The skills and/or knowledge covered by the programme are transferable and could be applied in a range of situations.
• The programme is aimed at current or aspiring leaders, managers, coaches, mentors or entrepreneurs.

Leadership is about leading people by example and encouragement so that they are inspired and will do their best to achieve goals set. Leaders create a vision, set direction and bring about change. Leadership is based on trust, underpinned by principles and guidelines.	Management is about organising and coordinating activities and people in an efficient way. Managers bring stability. Management is based on supervision and control, underpinned by policies and procedures.	Coaching and mentoring is about guiding and supporting people to help them learn, grow and develop or to help them manage their health and wellbeing. In the workplace, coaching and mentoring would most often be linked to training, development and support programmes for individuals.	Enterprise is about finding new business opportunities and making the most of them by taking an entrepreneurial approach. It may be about setting up a new business or taking an existing venture to the next level. Enterprise is based around new ideas, innovation, forward thinking, planning and implementation.

The ILM Recognised Quality Measures are the quality requirements used to determine whether the systems and processes an organisation has in place to support the effective delivery and management of a programme and are, therefore, suitable to be approved as ‘ILM Recognised’.

• Meet our initial eligibility criteria (see below)
• Have everything in place to meet the requirements of the ILM Recognised Quality Measures and
• Are ready to go through the application process using the published criteria and guidance (which is available from ILM).

Our initial eligibility criteria

1. Your organisation

Your organisation has been operational for a minimum of 12 months and is registered at Companies House in the UK or equivalent in another country.

2. Your programme

The programme to be approved is not a regulated programme or a qualification that sits on a UK, national or international qualification framework.

3. Intellectual property

Your organisation has the required Intellectual Property (IP) rights in place.

This means that your organisation owns the Intellectual Property (IP) of the content of the programme content to be approved or your organisation has permission to deliver the programme and owns the use of the Intellectual Property (IP) of the content of the programme to be approved.

Once a programme has been approved as ‘ILM Recognised’, you will be provided with two digital credentials:

Organisation credential

This credential is confirmation that your programme has met the requirements to be approved as ‘ILM Recognised’.

It is issued upon approval and can be used in a number of ways including on your organisation’s home page, on the programme page which promotes the programme approved as ‘ILM Recognised’ or in your email signature.

Programme credential

This credential is issued to participants who have completed a programme approved as ‘ILM Recognised’.

Issuing of the programme digital credential to participants is automatically included in your ILM Recognised approval.

The design of the credential is customised to your organisation as it includes your organisation’s logo as well as the title of your programme.
