Overview of the Level 3 Team Leader end-point assessment
The apprentice must spend at least 12 months on-programme and complete the required amount of off-the-job training in line with the apprenticeship funding rules.
The EPA should be completed within an EPA period lasting typically 3 months. The EPA is conducted by an independent assessor to provide reassurance that the apprentice is occupationally competent.
The apprentice must complete their training and meet the gateway requirements before starting their EPA. The EPA will assess occupational competence.
The EPA for Level 3 Team Leader has two distinct components that can be taken in any order. The result of one assessment method does not need to be known before starting the next.
EPA component 1:
Presentation with Questions
During this assessment, the apprentice presents a set topic to an independent assessor, who then asks follow-up questions. The presentation and questioning session lasts 50 minutes, typically broken down into a 20-minute presentation followed by 30 minutes of questions. An independent assessor will ask a minimum of 5 questions and must use the full time available for questioning. This format allows apprentices to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSBs) mapped to this assessment method. Available grades for this component are fail, pass and distinction.
EPA component 2:
Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
This is a formal two-way conversation between the apprentice and an independent assessor, during which the apprentice can refer to and illustrate their answers with evidence from their portfolio of evidence. The professional discussion must last 60 minutes, during which a minimum of 5 questions will be asked. The discussion allows apprentices to demonstrate the KSBs mapped to this assessment method. Available grades for this component are fail, pass and distinction.
Assessment Location
Both assessment methods will be conducted by video conferencing. ILM have processes in place to verify the identity of the apprentice and ensure the apprentice is not being aided. Face-to-face assessments can be arranged via the EPA Partnership Manager.
Assessments should take place in a quiet room, free from distractions and influence
Overall EPA Grading
The overall grades for this apprenticeship are:
To achieve an overall pass, your apprentice must achieve a pass in all assessment methods. To earn a distinction overall, they must achieve a distinction in all assessment methods by meeting all the distinction descriptors.
An independent assessor will individually grade the presentation with questions and professional discussion, underpinned by the portfolio of evidence, in line with the EPA plan. These individual grades will then be combined to determine the overall grade. Please note, that if one or more assessment methods are not passed, the overall result will be a fail.
