This qualification is designed for potential entrepreneurs – build the skills and knowledge you need to get your new business up
and running. It’s also ideal for owner-managers who want to run their businesses more effectively.

Focus on the skills you need

At Award level, there are two mandatory units, which focus on preparing for the personal and practical challenges of starting a business and assessing the viability of your business idea. At Certificate level, there are seven more mandatory units, to give you a comprehensive understanding of what you need to do to get your business on the ground. The units cover:

  • Carrying out market research
  • Identifying customer needs, delivering excellent customer service
  • Marketing and promoting your business
  • Resource requirements and the legal, security and maintenance implications
  • Finance issues, including cashflow and sourcing capital
  • Legal and regulatory issues
  • Developing a business plan

There are a wide range of optional units, so you can choose to focus on the specific areas that best meet your needs.

Structure

Details of the qualification, learning time involved and criteria a learner must satisfy

The qualification is structured into 1 unit group. At least 1 hour of induction and at least 2 hours of tutorial support are required. Learners must attain a total of 8 credits from 2 mandatory units and a choice of optional units.
